How to Resolve “Email is Already in Use” Warning

Modified on Mon, 30 Jun at 10:11 AM

When adding a user (internal, portal, or driver) to PortPro, users may encounter the error:
“Email is already in use.”

Why This Happens

This error typically occurs when the email is already linked to another PortPro account, often due to:

  • Prior employment at another PortPro-using company
  • Duplicate use across multiple PortPro instances

PortPro does not allow the same email to be reused across accounts.

Solution: Use an Email Alias

Most providers (e.g., Gmail, Outlook) support aliases using a “+” before the “@”.

Example:
Original: test@portpro.io
Alias: test+1@portpro.io

This appears unique to PortPro but still delivers emails to test@portpro.io. Users can increment or customize the alias (test+2@, test+customer@, etc.) as needed.

This ensures successful user creation and uninterrupted email delivery for logins, password resets, and notifications.
