Batch Routing – Moves Feature Update

Modified on Fri, 27 Jun at 1:35 PM

This guide outlines the enhancements to Batch Routing in PortPro as a result of the Moves feature update. These changes impact how loads are visualized and selected for batch assignment based on move events.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Overview of Batch Routing Updates

The Batch Routing page now uses move-based logic to surface scheduled events for the selected day. This enables dispatchers to assign multiple moves at once, grouped by event type and filtered by appointment.

  • Cards are now categorized by Pickup, Delivery, Hook, and Return

  • Each card displays all matching move events that require action on the selected day

  • Moves do not need to be the "next" event on a load to be shown

New Card Grouping by Move Type

The following cards appear based on move attributes:

Containers to Pickup

  • Move event includes pickup type

  • LFD or pickup appointment on selected day

Containers to Deliver/Load

  • Move event is delivery

  • Delivery appointment exists on selected day

Containers to Hook

  • Hook move scheduled with a hook appointment on selected day

Containers to Return

  • Return move with cutoff, per diem LFD, or return appointment on selected day

Card Contents and Visibility Rules

Each card contains a table listing:

  • Container Number

  • Move Type & Appointment Info

  • Driver Assignment (if any)

  • Location & Scheduled Date

  • Check box for multi-select assignment

Visibility Logic:

  • All events for selected date shown

  • Events appear whether or not they are the next move

  • Return/Hook only shown if appointments or time constraints exist

Assignment Flow in Batch Routing

The Batch Routing page enables dispatchers to assign multiple moves at once based on grouped events. This process streamlines workload distribution and minimizes scheduling errors.

Step-by-Step Assignment Flow:

1. Select the Appropriate Move Card

  • Choose from one of the categorized cards: Pickup, Delivery/Load, Hook, or Return

  • Click on the card title to expand the list of all move events applicable for the selected day

2. Review and Filter Moves (Optional)

  • Use column headers to sort or filter by:

    • Appointment time

    • Location

    • Load number or container ID

  • This helps prioritize time-sensitive moves first

3. Select Moves to Assign

  • Check the box next to each move you want to assign

  • You can select one move or several at once

  • A live count of selected moves may appear at the top of the card

4. Click the 'Assign Driver' Button

  • Once moves are selected, click the Assign Driver button at the top of the card

  • A modal window or side panel will open

5. Choose a Driver

  • Use the dropdown to search or scroll through available drivers

  • Each driver entry may include availability indicators (e.g., open slots, load count)

6. Confirm Assignment

  • After selecting the driver, confirm the assignment

  • Assigned moves will:

    • Be removed from the unassigned list

    • Show on the driver's schedule (if viewed in Planner)

    • Reflect new assignment in Moves and Routing modules

7. Repeat for Other Move Types

  • If needed, repeat the above steps for different cards (e.g., assign delivery and return moves separately)

  • This helps build out a driver’s full day route

Bulk Assigning Moves Example

Scenario: Dispatcher needs to assign 5 container deliveries scheduled for today.

  1. Navigate to Batch Routing and select Today

  2. Open Containers to Deliver/Load card

  3. Identify the 5 loads needing delivery

  4. Use checkboxes to select all five

  5. Click Assign Driver and choose from the list

  6. Confirm assignment and verify they are removed from the unassigned card
