Resolving the “Please Select Valid Customer” Error in Billing


This guide explains how to fix the “Please select valid customer” error in PortPro, which occurs when a deactivated Bill To profile is selected during the billing process.


Why This Happens

This error is triggered when billing attempts are made using an inactive customer account.


Purpose of This Validation

  • Prevents billing errors tied to inactive or outdated customer records

  • Ensures invoices are generated only for valid, active Bill To profiles

  • Supports accurate invoicing and cleaner customer data


How to Resolve the Error

Option 1: Reactivate the Bill To Profile

  1. Navigate to the Organizations page

  2. Filter the list by Inactive status

  3. Search for the customer (e.g., Starbucks Co)

  4. Click the circular checkmark icon next to the profile

  5. Confirm activation by selecting Yes in the prompt

Option 2: Reassign to an Active Profile

  1. Open the Billing tab in the relevant load

  2. In the Bill To field, select an active customer from the dropdown

  3. Save or update the charge set


Reminders

  • Only active Bill To profiles can be used for billing

  • If you're unsure which customer profile to use, check the Organizations page for status and details
