Terminal Label Overview & Functionality

Modified on Wed, 4 Jun at 12:28 AM

Project Overview

With the knowledge that ports and rails can go by many different aliases, PortPro uses terminal profile labels in order to standardize these locations.

Customer Profiles / Organizations

Under the Shipper/Port section of Customer Profiles / Organizations, the Profile Label will state the common name of the location.

Please note only one Profile Label will be tied to one active terminal profile. There can be inactive profiles with the same label.

Loads

When creating new loads, the symbols next to the pick up location will show one of the following:

  1. Tracked
  2. Tracked (!) No Credentials
  3. Not Tracked
  4. [blank]

Terminals that are not tracked may be due to missing credentials (check Settings - Container & Tracking Settings) or tracking may not be built out for this location yet. This can be checked with your Account Manager or Customer Success Manager.

On New Import, Road, and Bill Only Loads, the following fields will be relabeled:

  • Port → Pickup Location
  • Consignee → Delivery Location

On New Export Loads, the following fields will be relabeled:

  • Port → Empty Pickup Location
  • Consignee → Loading Location

Benefits

  • Consistency and Standardization: The profile labels will provide a consistent way to identify terminals across the industry, making communication and collaboration between carriers, brokers, and customers more seamless.
  • Reduced Operational Errors: By having a single source of truth for terminal names and profiles, it will help prevent issues like duplicate entries or mismatched terminology, reducing operational errors.
  • Easier Future Integrations: Even for terminals that are not currently tracked, adding the profile labels now will make it easier to integrate and activate those terminals for tracking in the future.
  • Proactive Notifications: When new terminals are activated for tracking, proactive notifications will be pushed rather than having to rely on email updates that could be missed.
  • Flexibility: Teams can still call terminals whatever they want internally, while the profile labels provide the standardized mapping behind the scenes.

Existing PortPro Client

Our system will attempt to match Terminal Labels to all shippers/ports/rails currently existing as customer profiles / organizations.

Please review to ensure all Terminal Labels match the correct profiles. Unmatched profiles will need to be assigned to the correct Terminal Label, which can be found in the Profile Label drop-down field (only unassigned Terminal Labels can be selected). Note that once a Terminal Label is assigned to a profile, it cannot be removed, nor can it be reused unless the profile is deactivated.

New PortPro Client / New Operating Locations

We encourage you to use Settings - Account Setup - Port Markets to enable any new port / rail locations for operations. This will ensure the profiles are created correctly with the matching terminal label.
